100 Años de pasión: La Cumparsita 1917-2017

Italy

April 19th 2017, the 100th Anniversary of the Cumparsita is celebrated all over the world. The Cumparsita is the most played and danced tango of all, born thanks to the collaboration of the Uruguayan composer Matos Rodriguez and at that time the best known Roberto Firpo, of Genoese origin.
For this reason and in remembrance of the cultural and social links grown during the period of the emigration from Liguria to Uruguay, Genova has been chosen as the ideal location for the most important celebration in Italy, with a night-event at the Theatre Carlo Felice that will open its doors with free admission to all tango, music and dance lovers.
Thanks to Regione Liguria, the Embassy of Uruguay in Italy, the Consulate of Uruguay in Genoa and some important sponsors, in this magical night everybody will be able to see an original show, created for the occasion and offered to the city and during which some international stars of Tango, with the Ensemble Hyperion Orquesta and passionate actors of the Teatro Stabile di Genova, will tell an extraordinary story set on music, a journey in the history of our city from the late nineteenth century and the early 1900s. intertwining with the history of the greatest and most loved Masters of Tango, from Canaro to Gardel, Rosita Melo, Horacio Ferrer and many others.
The history of Genoa and of Montevideo that we will discover so similar thanks to the suggestions of the old-time images, preciously revised by the fantasy of ETTSolutions, will be expressed in an intense narration by Roberto Alinghieri and Andrea Nicolini in the shoes of characters of the time.
And then great couples of dancers universally loved, Sebastian Achaval and Roxana Suarez, Neri Piliu and Yanina Quinones, Facundo Pinero and Vanessa Villalba, Stefano Giudice and Marcela Guevara, in original individual or group choreographies that for the first time will bring on the stage of Carlo Felice an entire show dedicated to Tango, to that culture and to that music, a heritage for all of us and Unesco Intangible Cultural Heritage since 2009.
A great celebration with exceptional guests, with a special cameo dedicated to the soccer history during which a charismatic testimonial will invite on the stage the two Uruguayn players from the Genoese soccer teams: Diego Laxalt (Genoa) and Lucas Torreira (Sampdoria)
And, at the end of the show, a “noche” of milonga for the tangueros in the foyer of the theatre with Nadia Tdj (Italy) and Daniel Pereyra (Uruguay).
The project, with the patronage of the Municipality of Genoa, the Chamber of Commerce of Genoa and the Merchant Navy Academy, is supported by the District 2032 of the Rotary Club that on the same day will celebrate in Genoa the Rotary Foundation Centennial. For those who wish, it will be possible to participate to a charity organized by Rotary for the international mission of Gaslini Hospital, to which is combined the drawing of two cruises offered by Costa Crociere, one to Uruguay and Argentina and one in the Mediterranean Sea.
